I was scratching my head for a long time because of this.

Here’s how to fix it, sick go to  C:Program Files (x86)CanonNetwork ScanGear   select all the .dll files and copy them to the c:windows directory.  That’s all!

Depending on the vendor, hygiene like for example HTC has a nice dialrer and a really nice keyboard so some of the suggestions here could be redundent depending on your phone manufacturer:

I think the main culprit is Google Toolbar.     So uninstall it and see if it makes a difference.

Another reason is fragmentation in the Firefox internal database.   There is an add-on that “cleans” the Database.
